Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction Main Points

  • Erectile dysfunction (also known as ED or impotence) is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse.
  • Erectile dysfunction affects 15 to 30 million American men.
  • Erectile dysfunction usually has a physical cause.
  • ED is treatable at all ages.

Erectile Dysfunction and loss of Libido Commonplace?

It is both common and normal for many men to experience impotence or the loss of interest in sex (libido) at some point in their lives. Ejaculation problems or even the ability to create testosterone at the levels they did when they were younger are all considered sexual health issues. Libido though is more of a physiological problem  that can be caused by stress, medications, sickness or even lowed output of testosterone and is not necessarily related to erectile dysfunction which as the name implies is a physical problem.

Men of any age can fall victim to erectile dysfunction though it becomes more prevalent as age increases. For example roughly 9 percent of American men are thought to have erectile dysfunction, 10 percent of men in their sixties, 25 percent of men in their seventies, 40 percent of men in their eighties, and more than half of those in their nineties.

So what is Erectile Dysfunction?

Simply put erectile dysfunction, (impotence) is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse.

Erectile dysfunction can be described as the inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. Because of these variations it can be difficult to estimate the numbers of men who are actually effected by ED, but rest assured it's in the tens of millions.

Is there a cure for Erectile Dysfunction?

In the not so distant past the number of men who went in to see their doctor for ED was in the tens of thousands while that trend has turned around today with millions of men going in to see their doctors for treatment. The reason for this is the advancement in treatments for the problem and with men being more willing to accept those treatments. With new options like vacuum devices and prescription drugs like Sildenafil, Viagra, Cialis and Regalis now more widely available there's little reason to not seek treatment .

The good news is that impotence is treatable at any age, and awareness of this fact has been growing for several years now. More men have been seeking help from their doctors and returning to normal sexual activity because of the advancements in ED treatments. If you have a problem with either of these talk with your health care provider about treatments that could help you. Don't be embarrassed. Being honest and getting help now can help you to re-energize your love life and enjoy an even better relationship with your partner.

Is Viagra a viable choice for ED?

In many cases it is, but that is best decided by a health care physician to decide. If your doctor does feel this is an option for you it may interest you to know that there are other generic versions of these drugs that cost a mere fraction of what the name brand drugs cost while still containing the same active ingredients.
